Been to a few classes and want a new challenge? We heard you which is why we have developed a range of beginner-friendly river board casting classes, and we can't wait to tell you a little about what they are and how they work.
What's a river board anyway?
If you have been to a maker's market you will have almost certainly seen a range of beautiful resin boards on display. Riverboards are generally speaking boards that look like they have a river passing between two (wooden) banks. Often filled with a blue resin, river boards encapsulate any number of items and are a beautiful and functional addition to any home.
It's easy to see how your creativity is the only limit when it comes to creating your very own board (which is why it's taken us so long to come up with something we think works in a class situation and still keeps the "fun art" in our classes.
So what classes are available and what makes them different?
Riverboards have been around for a while now so when we decided to run our version we wanted it to tick a few boxes (in addition to being fun). We needed a class where the end product would be unique to what was already on the market, the process would include space for our students to really get creative, and of course, the content of the class was informative but wasn't overcomplicated.
So what we did was through trial and error (and a whole lot of wasted liquid silicone!) is carefully cast custom-shaped silicone moulds in our studios, to create a completely unique shaped board that you simply can not get anywhere else but in our classes. Then we experimented with a number of techniques to create a group of classes designed with the customer in mind.
Which classes are coming?
As you can imagine your imagination is the only limit here, but we have created a number of classes and listed the first 3 in order to provide customers a space to complete a totally unique project and gain the foundational skills they need to make something truly beautiful.
So far we have three classes listed
Simple center river board - our basic beginner board, using two pieces of acacia wood anchored in the mould with the gap between filled with a range of things from crystals, dried flowers, coffee beans, keepsakes, bottle caps or whatever takes your fancy. The rear of this board is completely coated in resin intentionally allowing you to display this board riverside or rear side.
Keepsake half board - Slightly more complicated, you design your own board using whatever you like in a shallow bed of resin which is later topped up for you and coated with Diamond Coat allowing you to see and enjoy your design - half of this board remains acacia wood allowing us to oil your wood for a superior luster.
Winged Ocean Glass Riverboard - this class is slightly more advanced, successfully casting two sides of your board with a tinted resin. This board is sanded down to make the surface of the resin look rough with visible marks designed to replicate ocean glass. Definitely striking, the surface of both the resin and the acacia wood is oiled.
Do you have other classes coming too?
We do! Jaana has been busy in her studio testing and trialing class work and we are pretty excited to say that we have a few more options coming, from learning to cast your own mould using liquid silicone to petri dish-styled explosions of colour using alcohol inks right through to river tables - everything is on the menu and we expect to release even more options in the late half of 2022.
Do we need to be intermediate?
While a professional resin artist designed these classes, they were designed for the beginner so you are welcome to attend no matter if you have completed one class (or 10) and can check out the line up here:
